Photography by Steve Whalen
My passion for photography started almost two decades ago. Over the years, I've moved from 35mm photography to digital photography. Currently, I'm working with a Canon EOS-5D and am quite pleased with its capabilities.
I have a wide variety of "subjects" in my photography from professional
equine and pet photography to nature and portrait photography. I'm the official
photographer for Selwood Park Stables and one of the volunteer
photographers for Old World Wisconsin. "Old World" is a 576 acre historic
outdoor museum, depicting pioneer life of the early settlers of Wisconsin in the
1800's. I've had my equine photography published in National magazines such as
"Horse of Kings", "International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse
Association", "Wisconsin Horseman's News" and "Horse
N' Around."
My mentors include Ansel Adams, Loyd Heath and Marti Hauge (Works of M'art). Ansel Adams has had the biggest influence on my black and white photography; Loyd has been a personal mentor for several years; and Marti has helped me greatly with my equine photography.
I'm married to a professional web designer and my photographs appear on many of my wife's websites, since she specializes in equine-related and small business sites. In many instances, we share the same equine-related clients (such as Majestic Andalusian DM). It is through my wife that I
met Jo Phillips, as she is one of Jo's business partners. I appreciate the
opportunity to have some of my work published on Jo's website.
Many of my images are available in high resolution for stock photography and also for exclusive licensing. Please contact me at altiva@idcnet.com if you're interested in any of my images. You can also view more of my photographic work at Equine Photos.
